LA Green Challenge
November 16, 2009
Here’s an inspiring quote of the day: “Spring marks that time of year when twenty-somethings all over the world start to develop anxiety disorders.”
Well, at least it isn’t Spring right??? And at least the article is inspiring for recent graduates.
Oh well, since we are unemployed graduates looking for something to do, here’s an idea: Take a picture of yourself doing a green challenge and you can win something! This is for Los Angeles but you can choose your city here. So you have to
- Join Sustain Lane
- Choose a challenge.
- Take a photo of yourself completing the challenge.
- Upload it.
- Win a prize.
- Repeat.
Here is the Los Angeles Challenge:
- Turn Off & Unplug Appliances
- Sort & Recycle Products
- Plan Your Routes (to save gas)
- Just Use Public Transportation
- Switch Bulbs (LED or CFL’s are great and will save a lot of money)
- Support a Green Business (like a local Farmer’s Market)
- Buy Recycled Products
- Plant a Tree (or install that iphone app)
- Save Water (switch out faucets & showeheads)
- Use your Reusable Shopping Bag
[Scarlet] Letters & Sciences
September 11, 2009
Employment Woes: Why won’t society accept me? Another day, another job rejection. I don’t even get a true rejection: the industry likes to make me guess my chances by extrapolation of lack of returned phone calls. What’s wrong with ME? It’s like I have the scarlet letter on me!
I am, academically speaking, a scientist. I am both an earth and an environmental scientist. I thought I would for sure be guaranteed a job because of my broad studies and yet very scientific. Ms. K. only hopes for a mass extinction — to wipe out all the other job competitors clearly! Please hire me! I promise I can do anything.
Health Woes: We all know the right foods to eat, that we should exercise, sleeping 8hrs a day, etc will help us avoid cancer and premature DEATH but why are those tasks so difficult to do? I found myself recklessly devouring a Starbucks pairing breakfast, Panera sandwich and salad, and a heavenly double scoop banana sundae tonight after dinner. I went to the gym once this week — key word “went,” as in I went but barely did any work worth mentioning. And I sleep about 4 hours each night. Ms. K still lives as if she were a college kid, except unbelievably lazier and more unhealthy!
Help me find the way, [insert god or goddess here].
Sincerely, with the right intentions, but probably not working as hard as can be possible,
Khathy H.
